11 Bridal Shopping Questions: What our Brides Should know
Bridal Shopping Frequently Asked Questions
Bridal Shopping may be new to you but it is our specialty. We know once you become engaged you are entering a whole new world. Below are tips, policies and frequently asked questions to help guide you through the planning process.
The Appointment & Ordering
1. How early should I begin bridal shopping, and why does it take so long?
Couture gowns can take at least 4-6 months for delivery depending on the designer, while the alterations process can take another two months depending on the season. To ensure that you have a stress-free bridal shopping experience, start shopping as soon as you can within the year of your wedding. Alternately, if you are more that 12 months from your wedding, shopping too early can make you second-guess your decisions. If you have a long engagement 9-10 months out should be just right. Give yourself a deadline and stick to it. Once your gown is purchased, you can move forward with the other details of your wedding. Waiting too late can result in costly rush fees – or worse!
2. How will I know when I have found my gown?
Every bride reacts differently. Many find their perfect wedding dress in the first visit while others may make several visits before they reach a final decision. Some are emotional and exuberant while others never shed a tear. We recommend that you set realistic expectations for your bridal shopping experience. Enjoy the search but do not overwhelm yourself with too many choices or too many conflicting opinions from well-meaning friends and family. Find the best look for YOU, your theme and/or your venue. Think of your comfort throughout a very long day and choose a soliloquy that remains in your heart!
3. How long will my bridal shopping appointment last?
Typically, our bridal appointments are scheduled for 1 hour and 15 minutes to give brides time to try a variety of silhouettes. During the busy season and on weekends, appointment times may be reduced to 1 hour to accommodate the many appointment requests. Return appointments are encouraged if you feel you need more time. Bridesmaids, mothers and all other appointments are scheduled for one hour.
4. Whom should I bring with me to my appointment?
Choosing a wedding dress while bridal shopping can be an emotional and challenging decision. You should only bring a few trusted people with you to assist you and enjoy the experience. We find that most brides are successful with just one or two. While it may be important for you to have the opinion of those who love and support you, make sure their motivations are solely focused on you and your happiness on your wedding day.
Once you receive your appointment confirmation email, please read it carefully and comply with our guidelines to ensure that you have the experience you deserve, and in respect of others who may have simultaneous appointments.

Trunk Shows vs. Sample Sales
7. What is a Trunk Show?

This gives you an opportunity to try on many different styles and receive a discount for any item purchased during the show. Appointments are required so that you have a fitting room to try the gowns
8. What is a Sample Sale?
At least annually, we will offer a sale of the samples wedding dresses we carry in the boutique. They are sold AS IS and are generally reduced in price significantly depending on the designer, style, and condition. Additionally, there may be samples that we are willing to sell during regular appointments. Ask your consultant for current sample offerings. We keep our samples in good condition, cleaning and repairing them as needed.
9. Are wedding dress alterations included in the price of my gown?
Alterations are a separate fee and work by appointment only. The cost and type of alterations needed will vary among brides depending on what is needed to make your dress fit perfectly. Fees are charged based on the actual work to do to ensure that you are not overcharged for alterations needed. There is no fixed fee or set minimum for alterations at our boutique.
10. Will you alter my wedding gown if I didn’t buy it from you?
We will gladly alter wedding gowns that were purchased at other stores depending on the alterations schedule of our own clients. Alterations for Soliloquy Bridal Couture clients take priority. Please call and check for availability.
11. What does “Haute Couture” mean?
